VESSEL TRAFFIC SERVICES (VTS)

Navigation around ports can be challenging for various reasons. Firstly, ships cannot see around corners. Secondly, navigation becomes more difficult in bad weather and thirdly, certain combinations of ships and dangerous cargoes in the same area are hazardous. HITT Traffic’s Vessel Traffic Services system, used in Rotterdam, Hong Kong and Gdansk for example, combines radar, AIS transponder information and other sensors to create a live traffic image. A camera system provides positive identification of ships where direct visual verification is not possible; all this leading to safer and more efficient traffic flow in and around ports.
